Twitter Down: Elon Musk’s X Faces Major Outage, App and Web Hit

May 23, 2025

X Down: Major Outage Hits Twitter App & Website
Users across India reported a massive outage on X (formerly Twitter) early Saturday morning, leaving many unable to view posts, share updates, or even load the app and website.

When Did X Go Down?

According to Downdetector, the outage began around 12:30 AM IST on May 17. The disruption quickly spread across major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, as frustrated users took to other platforms to confirm the issue.

What Were the Main Problems?

The outage affected both the website and mobile app:

  • 59% of users reported problems with the website

  • 38% faced issues in the mobile app

  • 3% cited server connection problems

Many users saw the now-familiar message:

"Something went wrong. Try reloading."

As of this writing, no official explanation has been provided by X.

Not the First Time X Has Gone Dark

This is just the latest in a series of outages for the Musk-owned platform. A similar Twitter down blackout occurred on March 30, impacting users primarily in the US and India. Over 7,000 complaints were registered during that incident.

Back then, Elon Musk blamed a cyberattack, claiming a hacker group called Dark Storm was responsible and had even posted “proof” on Telegram.

Earlier in March, users also experienced brief periods of downtime, reinforcing concerns about platform reliability under Musk’s leadership.

What’s Next?

Until X issues a formal response, the cause of this new outage remains a mystery. Whether it’s technical issues, cyberattacks, or infrastructure strain, users are once again left in the dark – literally and digitally.
