Iconic Twitter Bird Logo from Former SF Headquarters Goes Up for Auction

March 19, 2025

Own a Piece of Twitter History: Iconic SF Bird Logo Up for Auction
A piece of Twitter history is now up for grabs. The massive blue bird logo that once adorned the company’s San Francisco headquarters is on the auction block, following Elon Musk’s rebranding of the platform to ‘X’ and its relocation to Texas.

Standing approximately 12 feet tall and 9 feet wide, and weighing around 560 pounds, the emblem—nicknamed "Larry" after basketball legend Larry Bird—was a staple of Twitter’s Market Street office for over a decade. It’s one of two identical signs that had been displayed on the building’s exterior for 11 years.

This historic sign was originally acquired during Musk’s 2023 rebranding auction and is now part of RR Auction’s "Steve Jobs and the Apple Revolution Auction," which showcases key artifacts from the tech industry. As of the latest update, bidding has surpassed $21,600.

The Legacy of Twitter’s SF Headquarters

Following Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the company underwent significant changes, including a rebrand to ‘X’ and a subsequent move to Texas in 2024. Before the relocation, a large, illuminated 'X' sign was temporarily installed on the building’s rooftop, sparking controversy due to its bright nighttime display. The city ultimately fined the company for installing it without a permit.

With Twitter’s departure, San Francisco’s Mid-Market district, which had already been struggling, continues to show signs of economic downturn. The fate of the former headquarters remains uncertain as the area grapples with the loss of a major tech tenant.
