Even Elon Musk Slips Up and Calls X "Twitter"

February 25, 2025

Even Elon Musk Forgets X Isn’t Twitter Sometimes
Still calling X by its old name, Twitter? You’re not alone. Even Elon Musk – the man behind the rebranding—occasionally refers to the platform as Twitter instead of X.

In a recent post on X, Musk wrote, “Twitter added far more features with fewer people,” seemingly forgetting the name change he introduced last year.

This slip happened while he was responding to a post discussing government workforce efficiency. Over the weekend, Musk, in his role leading DOGE (a government advisory group), instructed federal employees to submit weekly work reports by Monday—or risk termination. However, a government official later clarified that these reports were actually optional.

When another user supported Musk’s push for efficiency, commenting, “It worked for Twitter,” Musk echoed the sentiment – using the old name himself.

This isn’t the first time Musk has referred to X as Twitter, and it probably won’t be the last. The platform’s name may have changed, but for many—including its owner—the original branding still lingers.
